Gender discrimination means gender inequality or gender disparity or gender difference. It is  difference between male and female in respect of enjoying human rights. It is severe in Bangladesh which starts at birth. Female child, girls, women and destitute old women are the worst sufferers. In most of the illiterate and impoverished families, gender discrimination is acute. Boys and girls are not treated equally in our country. It is thought that physically and mentally women are not fit for many jobs.

Many parents want to have male children so that they can supplement their family income and help with the domestic work when the parents will grow older. In the existing socio-economic conditions, male children are best suited to this purpose. So,parents consider the female child a burden to them.

As a result, gender disparity in our country exists. I do not notice the existence of disparity in my family, because I belong to an educated family. Education can eliminate the disparity. But in the present scenario gender disparity is noticeable in most of the illiterate and poor families. Women due to gender disparity are lagging behind. The society is deprived of the service of the half of its population. Gender disparity is a barrier to socio-economic development of our country. Elimination of illiteracy, poverty and superstition will help do away with gender disparity of our  country. Awareness of the mass people is a must to solve this problem.

Rural Development

Rural development means the development of the villages and the improvement of the wretched lot of the rural people.Bangladesh is basically a rural country and more than 80% of her people live in the villages. So the development of Bangladesh depends on the development of the villages. For sustainable rural development we need to take specific programs in the spheres of infrastructure development, education, health, agriculture etc. We are fortunate that all the

governments of Bangladesh have the importance of rural development and have taken various programs for this purpose. Compulsory primary education and mass education programs, establishment of health centres and hospitals at upazilla and union levels, green umbrella program, ideal villages, cluster villages, food for work programs, distribution of VGF cards, allowance for the elderly people have been basically aimed at rural development.

Rural development has got priority in Bangladesh. All activities taken in this regard should be done in a coordinated way and progress should be monitored. The empowerment of rural people and involving them in various government and non-government activities should be ensured. Women and rural youth should be given priority. People’s participation generated through drive of leadership and gainful income generating activities will help significantly in rural development in Bangladesh.

The role of women in national development cannot be exaggerated. In fact, no development of the country is at all possible if one half of its population is kept out of the way. So scopes should be created so that our women can play their part in the process of national development activities.

In the modern world the women have proved that they are equal to their counter-parts in all respects. They are roll is changing day by day. They are now taking part in all kinds of out of home-work, official and none official, government and non-government self-employment, enterprises and business and commerce. Some women are in politics and parliament as well as in diplomatic services. Our women are rendering highly laudable service in nursing and teaching professions. A large number of our women are advocates, doctors, engineers and journalists. In fact. In every sector of out of homework, the roll of our women is highly appreciated.

Once upon a time, women were look down upon. It was thought that women were born to look after children, for cooking food and for doing household work. Women were not allowed to go to schools and colleges. But with the passage of kind peoples’ attitude have also changed. They are now able to realized that women can also take part in development work. They have prove their ability. Sometimes they do better and it is seeing that they are more sincere than men. They have the ability to contribute must to national development. In our country ( Bangladesh) both the prime minister and the leader of the opposition party were women and thousands of women are ingest in many important official jobs. They are working in all sectors of life with efficiency.

Women should be encouraged and given liberty so that they can take part in national development activities

Nation Building

Women are now a days as important a as men in society. They constitute nearly half of our total population. There can be no denying the fact that they too possess equal rights and duties as men do. They have noble missions to fulfill as men. If they get opportunity their genius, talents and capacities will gloom fully. No nation can make real progress keeping half of its population out of year.

The progress of the nation is not at all possible without the participation of women in development efforts. Though belated, women are now participating in the development work of our country. They are taking part in different occupations. Garments are the most contributing industries in the development of our country. And 90% of the garment works are women. Inspite of many problems they are working in the garments. Women work in many poultry farms.

A large number of our women work as construction workers. Women are taking education and working in different offices nowadays. We have some women social workers too. They are contributing to the social development of our country. A number of teachers, bankers, lawyers are women. Thus a large number of women are contributing to the development of our country. Still I think the participation of women is not up to the mark.

More women should participate as they are the half of our population. Education is necessary for them, otherwise they will remain backward. If the country could ensure a better environment for women to work, they would be able to contribute a lot to the development of the country. Their families also should encourage them. As a matter of fact, the involvement of women is a must for nation building.
