World cup
cricket takes place every four years. Its sole organiarer is the ICC. It
arranges, manages and organizes the world cup. Bangladesh, India, Sri
Lanka host the world cup 2011. This world cup is the tournament of
fourteen countries. The fourteen nations tournament was inaugurated in
Bangladesh on Feb. 19, 2011. It was held in the Sher-E-Bangla stadium, Mirpur,
Dhaka. And it was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The
inauguration was really spectacular. The inaugural celebration was started with
our national anthem. The ICC officials, the diplomats and many others attended
the ceremony. The tournament was divided into two groups- group A and group B.
and each group consisted of seven teams. The countries which played in group A
were Australia, Pakistan, New zealand, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Canada and Kenya.

From the
begging, the people of Bangladesh were very much interested in the world cup.
But they lost their eagerness when Bangladesh could not qualify for the quarter
final. Ultimately India and Sri Lanka qualified for the final match. The final
match was held on 2 April 2011 and it was enjoyable. India won the ICC World
Cup Cricket-2011.
Price-Hike
Price-hike
or the rising of prices of essential commodities is the most talked about issue
of the present time. The price of the necessary commodities is getting sky high
and out of the reach of the poor and the lower middle class people of the
country.
There are a
number of reasons behind the soaring prices of the daily necessaries. With the
growth of the population there remains always a shortage of the production of
the commodities like rice, fish, meat, milk and vegetables, oils etc.
This deficit in the production of daily essentials causes price-hike.
The dishonest businessman hoard essential products in their go downs with an ill motive to become rich overnight. As a
result there is breakdown in the supply. These dishonest businessman have
spread their network all over the country. They have formed an evil syndicate
that fabricates schemes to raise the price of commodities. Smuggling and black
marketing are also important factors that cause price-rise. The govt. is not
strict to bring these dishonest businessman into book. Sometimes the
international economy exercises an influence on the price-hike. The govt.
policy for controlling price is not effective. There is also no proper
mechanism to fix price for a product. There also prevails lack of proper monitoring
system.
The poor and
lower middle class people suffer intolerably for price-hike. They cannot afford
to manage two square meals a day. They suffer unbearably due to malnutrition
and other diseases. Many even die as they do not get medical facilities. In
such situation no nation can prosper if its citizen do not get proper food and
medical facilities.
The
government should take proper initiatives to control price-hike to mitigate the
sufferings of the common people. Strict laws regarding food price should be
implemented and proper monitoring should be conduct. Above all, we should raise
our voice against the unreasonable price-hike of the daily essentials.
Student
life is the period for education and training. It is not desirable that
students should waste their time and energies in affairs other than education.
But living in a developing countries like ours, students have to render certain
services for the development and progress of the nation. Students are in the
process of learning and they can share their acquired knowledge with the
illiterate and deprived
citizens of our country. They may run night schools and teach the poor and
working children as well as uneducated adult people. If that is not possible,
they can at least teach servants in their own houses. Besides teaching the
three R’s- Reading, writing and Arithmetic, students can also teach the people
about modern methods of cultivation, the use of fertilizers and the proper care
of crops. They can also provide advice on earning methods, for example, weather
to dig a pond for fish cultivation or to make a farm. They should also render
social services during leisure time or during long vacations.
Students
can take part in raising awareness regarding population problem. Population is
growing in geometrical progression. If this growth remains unchecked, the
economic security of the country will be at stake. The illiterate people of our
country are full of prejudices and do not feel the necessity of family
planning. Students may come forward to remove the wrong conceptions of the
people. They can teach people the problems of over population and should
encourage them to adopt the measures of family planning.
Students
can teach people the rules of health and sanitation. They can teach them how to
reduce pollution and how to lead a healthy life by staying neat and clean. Our
uneducated people are very dirty. They have very little civic sense. They spit
on the floor, throw garbages hither and thither creating troubles to the
pedestrians. They should be convinced that these are harmful habits. Most of
the people of our country are poor and illiterate. The food they take has very
little nutritional value. So a large number of people suffer from various
diseases. the students can teach these people some basic treatments of diseases
like dysentery and small infections.
Students
can prove to be worthy during natural calamities. In times of flood, famine,
cyclone, earthquake and epidemic, they can come forward to help the people in
distress. They can collect food, clothes and medicine and distribute them
amongst the people in need.
There are
many other duties that students can perform as conscious citizens of a country.
But not all students are aware of their duties. To have the country, every
student should come forward with a helping hand. But in doing so, they should
not forget that proper attention should be given to their education.
Role of students in 1971
Students
are an integral part of society. In a society they enjoy individual liberty
under common discipline. As society beings, they also enjoy certain rights and
privileges. So as the members of the society they are obligation to perform
certain duties to society.
In 1971
during the war of Liberation, the students played very vital role. The studenys
expect a certain quarter of pro-Islamic parties, rose to the occasion. They
whole-heatedly responded to the call of Sheikh Mujibar Rahman. On March
01, 1971 the students forum assembled at the historic ‘Bottola’ of the
University of Dhaka and hoisted for the first time the flag of Independent
Bangladesh.
The
declaration of independence was virtually the confirmation of the ‘Sarbadolio
Chattra Sangram Parishad’s proclamation of independence.
The
students, the main force of the country, took the responsibility of organizing
the war. They motivated the general people of the country to take part in the
war in any form. They went to India organized the people of all ages to take
training and to face the occupation Pakistan forces. In doing this, they
established a close link with other sections of people. They put their all out
efforts to maintain strict discipline, which is an essential factor for a war.
The
students not only took active role in facing the Pakistani occupation forces
but also organized the war in liaison with all sections of people. They hardly
hesitated to face the Pakistani forces and to sacrifice their in valuable lives
for the independence of the country. In\fact the students were far more
conscious of the legal rights than the general people. They took the
opporession of the Pakistani government as a challenge and were determined to
protest against it at any cost.
This is
in fact, the outcome of their love for the motherland. With the dedication and
determination of the young generation, the country achieved her independence on
16 December 1971 at the cost of a sea of fresh blood. Now we are the citizens
of an independent country. We should be grateful to those young forces who laid
down their invaluable lives for the sake of the country. We can express our
views in Bengali.
